September
3rd - Jammed Up & Injured (continued) In
three weeks, I went from running about 20 painful miles per week to 54 miles in
the last 7 days. I've been running twice a day in an attempt to rebuild my running
strength and stamina. Today I ran 20 miles (10:40 average pace) at 5:45 AM and
then 9 miles (9:59 average pace) at 3:00 PM. I'm having some Achilles tendon discomfort,
but nothing like 3 weeks ago. I'm not bustin' any "g"-records,
but... running with orthotics has actually become... comfortable. What's
happened? What's different? In addition to wearing orthotics 24/7, I returned
to running in ASICSs 1120s (mild pronation/greater flexibility), shortened my
stride, and trained at a slower pace. I can safely say...
I'm ready to rock at the 2007 Reach the Beach 200 Mile Relay Race on 9/14.
I'll need to be careful and I'll have to ice down my calves/Achilles tendons after
running... but, I'm in! Depending on what
I learn in the next 3 weeks, I'll make a final decision as to whether or not I'll
be running the VT 50-Miler on 9/30.
