September 3rd - Jammed Up & Injured (continued)

In three weeks, I went from running about 20 painful miles per week to 54 miles in the last 7 days. I've been running twice a day in an attempt to rebuild my running strength and stamina. Today I ran 20 miles (10:40 average pace) at 5:45 AM and then 9 miles (9:59 average pace) at 3:00 PM. I'm having some Achilles tendon discomfort, but nothing like 3 weeks ago. I'm not bustin' any "g"-records, but... running with orthotics has actually become... comfortable.

What's happened? What's different? In addition to wearing orthotics 24/7, I returned to running in ASICSs 1120s (mild pronation/greater flexibility), shortened my stride, and trained at a slower pace.

I can safely say... I'm ready to rock at the 2007 Reach the Beach 200 Mile Relay Race on 9/14. I'll need to be careful and I'll have to ice down my calves/Achilles tendons after running... but, I'm in!

Depending on what I learn in the next 3 weeks, I'll make a final decision as to whether or not I'll be running the VT 50-Miler on 9/30.

("g's" mother):
Despite my son's obsessive
rot-talk about this
ultra-thingy thing, he's really a
very nice boy... just a little misdirected in his 50s.

Black Fly Mike '49 (83)
("g's" father):
My son has such sensitive
feet (eyes, hearing, skin, etc.)
just like his father.
Do you have an hour?
I've had this little ache...
"g" endures only slight Achilles
tendon pain after running 54 miles
this past week.
