After 2 months of 80-90 degree temps with humidity as thick as a Fribble, the weather broke for a cool 65 degree start.

"g"... Faster then a Speeding Bullet?
Race the Train
(8-08-05)

Perhaps based on the Great Train Race in England, Race the Train (running race) originates in the quaint Adirondack village of North Creek, NY. Entering it's 4th year, spectators and runners load onto a train which delivers about 200 runners 8.4 miles south to the start line in Riparius - a bridge on the Hudson River. When the whistle blows at precisely 0900 hours... runners race into the woods along a dirt road that meanders over rolling hills. The foot race parallels the train's (and it's spectators/passengers) route (back) to the finish line in North Creek. Along the way, the train stops several times to allow spectators to cheer for runners.

Well, we at G-WeBconnect have often wondered how fast "g" really is. We thought about having him race a speeding bullet, but G-WeB's Legal Department worried he might get inadvertently shot. So, our Research & Gags Department sent out scouts and found Race the Train - the ultimate running race... man against machine! Finally, we'd know just how fast stent-man really is!

So... get your radar gun ready... as G-WeB offers you...

0635 Hours:
Arriving way too early, the registration desk was barely
ready for action.
0700 Hours:
Early and nervous
entrants and
spectators milled
around the train,
toured the
gift shop and took advantage of rest
rooms without lines!

Filled to the caboose
with passengers, the
train left the finish line
in North
Creek for the
start line in Riparius -
8.5 miles south.
At 64, Long Shots
again
intended to squash
(poor little) "g" into his
vapor trail. When the
start whistle blew, LS
sprinted the first 2 miles
up a breathtaking hill that seemed to have no
downside.

"g", at 52, had a
secret weapon. To beat
Long Shots, and more importantly the train,
back to North Creek...
he had his cardiac stent
scraped clean the day
before the race.
What in the world
could Anne be
saying to Long Shots?
It's anyone's guess!

Start-Line:
At 0859 hours,
Long Shots and "g"
scarfed down
carbohydrate gels
and H2O.

"g" ran a fast 1:12,

Dang! Long Shots came in
1 minutes faster...
and the train?
The course was all hills.
The finish line looked terrific!
