June 16th Update:
5 weeks until the VT100M... oh, boy...

OK. Things are lookin' very interesting...

1) I returned to Dr. D. (chiropractor) for some fine tuning. Using the Active Relief Technique, he did his Mojo on my Achilles' tendons and some groin strain. I'm feeling (mostly) pretty good!

2) My efforts to put together a Pacer/Handler Support Team ended with a big ol' goose egg. My running buddies all traveling race weekend and doing all kinds of cool things. The good news? Team-C and her 15 yo son (K-Man) will be my Handler/Pacer Team. K-Man will run (walk?) the last 20 miles with me.

I also received an e-mail from a fellow VT100-miler I met while volunteering at an ultra back in April. He wondered if I'd run with him because he lacked a pace team. Last year at his first 100M in CA, The Golden Compass got lost for 3 hours in the woods - at night! He's not lookin' for a repeat performance!

3) My training is going well. Based on what I learned from running ultras too close to one and other last year, my longest runs (100K/62M and 35M) were 3 months and 7 weeks before the VT 100M. Last week I started to run 2-a-days with a total weekly mileage of 75 miles.

4) Thanks to J-Man's advice 2 days ago, I just purchased a pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra trail running shoes. I'll be putting some low mileage on them before race day.

5) Yesterday was Father's Day. Not only did I have a great day watching Slammin' Sarah play in a soccer tournament in VT, but the girls got me the coolest, most light weight emergency headlamp - a PETZL e+LITE. Man, does this thing throw some light! It will compliment my new Black Diamond light blaster headlamp for trail running the VT100 at night!

6) I've established my anticipated race (miles per minute) schedule for the VT100M. Of course, it's only anticipated! I'm lookin' at a 28 hr finish time. It goes like this:

Miles 1-57: 12 MPM pace
MIles 57-62: 14 MPM pace
Miles 62-88: 20 MPM pace
Miles 88-100: 25 MPM pace

7) My trip and race lists for race day are now under development.

July 7th Update:
2 weeks until blast-off...

OK. I'm freakin' out a bit.

Starting today I begin my taper. Yesterday I ran the Adironack Run - 10M from Lake George to Bolton Landing with an 8:50 minute per mile average pace. This was a great final sprint before the VT100M.

After a bizarre problem with developing huge blisters on both pinkie toes, the use of Band-Aides seemed to solve the problem. With the same shoes and socks I've been wearing for 3 years... I think my problem began with longer running weeks and wearing my shoes to loose.

I believe I've trained well for the VT100M. I've averaged 60M for many weeks. The last 3 weeks I've been running 2-a-days 3 times a week. I've been running in plenty of heat as the VT100M always has temperatures in the 90s. I'm changed my gels to a Hammer product. My race/ravel lists are coming together...

...it's time to rock! VT100M... here I come!
