When "g" pulled up to the Hat's place at 7:30 AM, he suggested snowshoes. "Naaaa," said the Hat with confidence, "we haven't had snow all winter! What's the worry?"

Upon arriving at the trailhead parking lot, the Boys watched three rather seasoned-looking hikers gear-up from their SUV with packs, snowshoes and crampons, and head off into the woods. "Hey 'g'", murmured the Hat, "can I borrow those extra snowshoes?"

It was a brisk 35-40 degrees... perfect hiking weather. There were snow flurries and crisp views. Even though the lowlands hadn't seen snow in 2 months, the High Peaks had a dumping-full of the white stuff at about 3000 ft. It was crunchy, packed trail snow - incredible cruising terrain with crampons!

It was only a mere 0.5 miles when AXE and "g"
strapped on their crampons

The snow gradually deepened as the Boys
hiked 4 miles to the summit.

About 1 mile from the summit the snow became
thick and heavy! At the summit of Big Slide there
was lunch and some of the best views of the
Adirondack High Peaks

"g" finally hiked
a peak with
his eyes closed.

to figure out what
"g" has under his

The View"I can't believe
the Hat didn't bring
snowshoes, and then
wouldn't wear the ones
he borrowed from me!"
