When the Boys trek... there are always personal, covert agendas secretly co-opting their time, energy and hiking adventures. For example, AXE and the Hat were not terribly thrilled with "g's" plan to stop at the Bears restaurant before hiking. However... being the driver does have its advantages! Unfortunately, tradition had been broken and they traded in homemade egg sandwiches at the Mobile Country Store in Schroon Lake, for a very disappointing breakfast fare in Pottersville.

From the moment "g" picked up the Hat at 0700 hours, the Hat was concerned about not getting home by 1700 hours to provide child care for his toddler. He even offered to drive a second car to leave the High Peaks Region earlier if necessary. "It shouldn't be a problem," "g" spoke with confidence, "we're hiking Big Slide and it's only a 6 mile round trip! We'll be home long before 5 PM."

And of course there was AXE's continuous whining about wanting pie which he cranked out for 6-hrs/10 min: After the hike we need to stop and have pie. Steamy hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream! Warren don't worry. Your family will figure out what to do with your kid when you don't show up on time! I want pie! We have plenty of time...

And poor "g". He miscalculated the strenuous efforts of hiking Rocky Ridge one week before his second marathon in 5 weeks (Marine Corps Marathon). You see... "g" was in trouble. 3-days post-hike he was still soaking in Epsom salt baths, swallowing handfuls of Tylenol, and barely able to walk up stairs. His thighs and calves burned and ached. How would he ever run 26.2 miles in the next 5 days? What ever happens... you can bet Slammin' Sarah, G-WeB's one and only staff photographer, will be on the scene in DC to report the whole "g"-story!

Headin' Home: End Note

(1) Short on time for the Hat, there was no 3.14 for AXE; (2) The Hat arrived home 30 minutes late,
and yes, his family had determined childcare for their toddler; and, (3) "g" could not walk for
3-days post-hike as he neared the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of the week
