Part 9: Campsites Along the WCT
Night #4: Logan Creek

LaBella Karma continued well into Day-4. No rain. No bugs! No fog. No injuries. It's safe to say the Boys' exclusive misfortune was limited to the loss of their one and only pot gripper. A minor inconvenience, especially when "g" cooked his nightly, fresh breads.

As the Boys' traveled south on the WCT, they passed fellow hikers going north. Upon such intersections, both parties would share valuable trail information that made for much improved and informed plans for hiking, camping, etc. The most significant trailside news was about the infamous, Chey Monique's. Apparently, it did exist and if she was awake... breakfast was available starting at 0700. Breakfast at CM's was NOW on the map! Things kept getting better all the time.

An early start for breakfast... hopefully there is a Chey Monique's and it's serving breakfast.

  Carmanah Point Light House:
A very steep 200-ft ascent up to the lighthouse...
...and back down to the shore line.

Chey Monique's:
Seeing is believing. There it was. Chey Monique. Skip the bacon and eggs, the Boys (except for AXE) had fresh halibut burgers at 0830! Monique was proud to announce, "It was swimming yesterday."

Monique (French) and her husband (Peter, First Nations Indian) claimed this parcel of land 14 years ago. As she tells the story, they didn't know the WCT crossed over their property. While sitting on a log drinking a Coke, some hikers approached them and asked if they wouldn't mind selling them a soda. The next thing she knew... they had a business going!

Besides offering a short menu, they sell some odds and ends camping supplies, candy bars, and they have a food swap box labeled, "Take a little or leave a little". It was worth the stop!

The Boys lounged on the cove awaiting breakfast. Later, "g" stayed behind to get the scoop from Monique as the other's headed south along the shore line. The consequence being, "g" hiked alone for about 1-1/2 hours... listening to his MP-3, taking in the seascapes and enjoying the stroll. They were livin' the dream!

Walbran Creek:
A beautiful fresh water pool from the creek entered into the Pacific just yards away. Those who grew up in the 60s did a little naked bathing - again. It was nearly noon... so the Boys had lunch before continuing.
PS: Next to camping at Tsusiat Falls, Walbran Creek should be a must!

Logan Creek Campsite:
Small, this campsite offered a secluded feel as the beach disappeared at high tide and the campers were left feeling somewhat claustrophobic!

The Hat strolls along the low tide shelf and prepares to cross a huge storm channel.   The Boys return to their campsite to find a nearly naked monk sleeping in the Knee's tent. He was gone by nightfall.

The Boys offer themselves a pre-dinner toast with the 2-beers-each they purchased at Chey Monique's earlier in the day.

The Boys settle down to spaghetti sauce with 2 lbs of mushrooms, and sweet bread with ham and cheese. Man, what a meal! "g" improvises during the very sensitive process of cooking bread since the mysterious loss of their one and only pot gripper. (By consensus, the Boys secretly believed the Knee had it somewhere in his pack!)

Nightfall is always special on the WCT. It had been another superb day. Perfect weather. No injuries. Plenty of firewood. Full and happy stomachs. Cool. Very cool.
