Part 11: Paranoia on Day-6 of the WCT

It was understood, that the hardest and most physicality challenging leg of the WCT began at the southern trailhead. The Boys planned to hike from north to south and save the hardest part of the trail for their last day of hiking - with lighter packs and improved phsyical conditioning.

From Trasher Cove, the trail was aggressive. Very steep ascents and descents hosted the worst rooted trails imaginable. So intense was the rooted trail that "g" became honestly paranoid with every step he took. He kept wondering, "What are the odds of falling now... twisting an ankle... after 5 days of hiking without any injury?"

Never the less, "g" arrived at the trail's end first. Relieved to be injury free, he basked in the glory of having completed another, most incredible trekking adventure with the Boys. Within 25 minutes, the others arrived... it was brewsky and halibut time! The LaBellishments had only just begun! the Boys were livin' the dream... again.

Upon arriving at the southern end of the trail, the Boys hoisted the orange buoy hanging in a tree to signal to the ferry captain (on the other side of Port San Juan) that hikers were ready for a pick-up. It was a bittersweet moment. The long awaited hike had come to a close... but, the good news... there were pints of Canadian brewskies and halibut burgers waiting for them at the Lighthouse restaurant in Port Renfrey!

Arriving at the southern trail head's dock at Port Renfrey was exciting. The Boys felt like heroes as freshly trimmed and energetric hikers had plenty of questions for them. And boy oh boy... did the Boys have plenty of stories to offer!

After walking a bit down a dirt road to the Ranger's Station, the Boys picked up their commemorative and free, "I hiked the WCT" T-shirt. They each paid $2 for a taxi ride to a well deserved (and needed) camp shower (5 miles away). After cleaning up, it was a delightful walk to the Lighthouse restaurant (above) for lunch and the WCT Bus pick-up spot.

Port Renfrey was a beautiful fishing port. Fisherman were hauling in 30-40 pound halibuts.

From the dock at Port Renfrey, looking northwest, the WCT's shore line trail is viewed on the right...

...and the view looking northeast.   Then it was time for another pint...

...and a few good stories.

The 1630 hr WCT Bus actually arrived at 1800 hrs. Geez.   Back in Victoria.
