"g", the Knee, the Hat and AXE are in the groove on Day 1 of the WCT... 48 miles to go!

Part 1: Zigzagging

It was amazing. The Boys zigzagged across the country on different airlines and all arrive in Vancouver in time to catch the ferry to Vancouver Island. The Hat and "g" were using frequent flyer miles and flew free - but, on different airlines. By some magical fate, the Knee and AXE had different origination points, but caught the same connection from Chicago to Vancouver where they would meet up with "g" on a tight schedule to catch the 12:40 bus to the ferry - which they missed due to long lines at customs.

Attempts to coordinate their rendezvous once in Vancouver were hampered by their respective inability to retrieved cell phone messages when phoning from Canada. Of course, the Knee had cell phone service that didn't include Canada and a battery that would only hold a charge for 30-minutes!

And, the Hat... who planned to meet the Boys later that evening at their hotel in Victoria, never did catch up with a former psychology intern upon his arrival at Vancouver airport. Unfortunately, his 3 flight delays transformed a 6-hour flight itinerary into 12. Catching the last ferry to Vancouver Island, he arrived in Victoria at 11:00 PM. At that point, the Boys were fast asleep after tipping a few pints and having dinner on the Sticky Wicket's roof top cafe (which sported a sandy volleyball court and live rock).

Vancouver Airport:
AXE nearly earns back the AKA of Jim the Gentleman Hiker after giving his spare knee brace to Niki the Babe who developed a progressive knee injury on the second day of her hike. In all likelihood, she would require rescue evacuation.

  Vancouver Airport:
The Knee awaits the return of Ticket-Guy who ran out of bus/ferry passes. Check out his fickle smile of a guy who knows he'll have the lightest pack in the group. He's speculating... perhaps... 32-lbs!
  Ferry to Vancouver:
Basking in the sun, the Boys enjoy gorgeous weather, wale watching and a delightful 1.5 hour cruise to Vancouver Island.

"g" wonders if he'll be able to steal one of AXE's highly coveted, berry streusel slices which he had rationed out (for himself) for 5 breakfasts on the trail! Only time will tell.
