As destiny typically determines, the Boys
seem to take the long(er) and more interesting path to life's outdoor
adventures:
(1) In the White Mountains, AXE, Rog and "g"
intended to summit Jefferson only to find themselves on a dirt road
leading to the weather station at Mt. Washington...
(2) With High Altitude driving their 15 passenger van from Yosemite
back to home base, the 44 mile short-cut on a one-lane, convoluted
and mostly gravel road nearly cost them their lives as they cornered
many close shoulders with nothing but severe drop-off to catch their
fall...
(3) A slight slip of the memory on the Tonto Platform in the Grand
Canyon resulted in "g"
forecasting a "6-mile" hike on Day-3 instead of the looong,
hottttt "9-mile" trek.
So, it should be no surprise that planning for the Big Wazoo of a trip
in August 2003 would follow a similar course. In October 2002, the great
wheels of intellect had begun to turn. The Boys
agreed to secure a backcountry permit for 8 (Why not make it 18?)
to hike the only multi-day, 50 mile loop at Glacier National Park (MT).
Everyone was excited.
So it begins... another G-WeB insight into
the fickle follies of the Boys...
the momentous moments of mapping their big trip for 2003... the plethora
of planning updates... and the inconsolable e-mail chatter and squabble
about gear, dehydrated meals and who will stand "grizzly watch"
each night! Let the links below guide you through the action... as the
Homer Simpsons of backpacking reach for... The Plan for Summer 2003
