Final Pack Weigh-In: Part 1
Gear-Checklist for a 5-Day Trip to
Grand Teton National Park

Months of planning and gear-arranging finally led up to the real thing in Wyoming. "g" was ready for the official G-WeB Final Pack Weigh-In in Jackson Hole.

Final pack weigh-ins are some what farcical. We at G-WeB have yet to find a scale at a trailhead. However, "g" had been so meticulous and obsessive with weighing every item in his pack and then posting it on G-WeBconnect that no one dared challenge his 40-lb. claim.

Then there's AXE (formally known as Jim the Gentleman Hiker). From the moment he hit the Hermit-Tonto-Bright Angel Trail Loop, AXE kept boasting, "My pack is definitely less then 40-lbs."

Yet, as the 4-day trip unfolded... AXE pulled from his pack things like: three, 1-pint cartons of non-frigerated milk for his daily breakfast cereal; 3-bananas and 3-pristine shaped breakfast pastries in their own, crush proof plastic containers; a small red and white checkered table cloth; and 2-liters of red wine (stored in a Platypus bladder) for their first trail dinner. On the way home, AXE did admit, "I think my pack weight might have pushed the 40-LB mark."

Anywho, G-WeB is proud to present "g's" Gear Checklist for a 5-day Backpacking Trip (to the Tetons - 8/02).

REMEMBER:
The Gear Checklist includes some of the clothing (e.g., sweater, jacket, etc.) you might wear on Day One of your backpacking trip. At the time of this writing, I'd expect about 4-lbs of Community gear/food and about 5-6 lbs. of personal food.
