Snowshoeing Prospect Mountain
(Lake George, NY)
Back into the Winter Woods
(3/08)

Prospect Mountain was both nearby and a baby climb for our heroes in tennis racquets! But, the Boys decided on this quick climb having had 10 inches of snow drop in 30 minutes the previous night.

During the summer, Prospect Mt sports a spring race up it's 7 mile toll road. Vacationers at Lake George will drive to the summit for great views of the lake and surrounding Adirondack Mountains. In the winter, the toll road is closed although open to about a zillion snowmobilers.

The hiking trail begins on a remote side street in the village of Lake George. After a 500 yd. hike, a left turn for 1/4 mile on another street, there's a right turn to go up and over the interstate via a walkway. Then it's about another 3 miles to the summit. The well marked trail provides great access to the summit in the winter and summer, and has even become a favorite at night with headlights.

So... the Hat, Smelly-Stick Larry and "g" loaded up the CRV and in 45 minutes were at the trailhead.

First the Hat, and then Smelly-Stick, crossed over I-87...

...and then...
it was into the wood!

Once at the summit, amidst about 2-zillion snowmobilers... our snow bunnies in snowshoes snacked on piping hot soup and other assorted munchies.

...and, then it was back down and across the walkway...
