Snowshoeing Rooster Comb
(Keene, NY- 1/08)
"a's" First Winter Hike in the
High Peaks

"a":
No Stranger to Adventure!

"a" is no stranger to adventure. Whether on the Ultimate Frisbee field, backpacking or running on the streets in DC, she's always up for something new. So, her dad figured it was time for a little snowshoeing in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondack Mountains (NY).

Rooster Comb seemed to be a good starter mountain. Not quite a high peak... it wouldn't require strap-on crampons to reach the summit and it would offer great views from the top.

They took some extra warm clothes (just in case), a couple of swaths of foam sleeping pad to sit on for lunch (each weighing about 2-oz.), piping hot Lipton's Chicken Noodle Soup (with EXTRA noodles), blistering hot Chef Boyardee Spaghetti & Meatballs, and the infamous G-WeB-Camera for the summit shot proving the climb.

The trail was crunchy and they might have been better off just wearing strap-on crampons. With such great winter trail hiking conditions... their 2.5 mi. jog down the mountain in snowshoes was a blast! The movin' was so good, they chopped off 1+-hours off their climb time!

Yep... "a's" now an official snowshoer!

With no one on the trail... the hike up was quiet. "a" and her dad took a leisurely stroll to the
summit with many stops for conversation and a look.

OK... so they did get some good pictures... but the G-WeB-Camera battery conked out at the top.
So... did they really make it to the top?
