Periodically, the G-WeB photo archive
is purged of it's many useless and pointless images of the
Boys doing such exhilarating things like staring, walking and
making faces. Some of those images are likely to show up here.
Unfortunately (or fortunately... depending on your point of view), not
all of the adventures of the Boys
are chronicled. There have been guest backpackers like 35-lbs of Rope
Paul and Zero Weight In His Pack John who are yet to appear
in the Hall of Fame... don't despair... it's only a matter of time
before they become digitized! But here goes... more from the
Boys Hall of Fame!

The Jogging LaBella Brothers
descend the Hermit Trail (Grand Canyon 2001) and pull off a power shot as
they effortlessly cruise past the endpoint of their previous, ill-fated
and thwarted trip to the bottom. |

Born on Long Island, the sons of Italian immigrant Black Fly Mike
'49 and Irish maven I'll Camp on My Honeymoon Ruth, "g"
and RB grew up with a generation of years between them. They have
a sister, Di, who was responsible for ensuring that RB did
not wander too far from his box as an infant.
Anywho... The Boys with sole got their reputation in the Grand
Canyon (10/00) when they reacted to an impromptu decision

to jog (with 45-lb. packs and hiking
boots) the last 5-miles of the trail from Cottonwood to Bright Angel Campground.
As rumor (and now legend) has it, they simply picked up their pace and spontaneously
began to jog when they were co-opted by the esprit de corp of joggers running
a race along the Canyon's floor. Along with the men and women donning nothing
more then skimpy nylon shorts, tank tops, running shoes and water bottles,
the Boys with Backpack Panache simply... joined in. It was not until
later that evening at Phantom Ranch, when joggers from earlier in the day
gave the Jogging LaBella Brothers the high-five, that RB and
"g" were able to convince
the Boys of their marathonian-like
(and truly bizarre hiking) behavior along the Bright Angel Creek. |
